Indictment issued almost a year after fatal car crash

Losing a loved one in an accident is one of the most devastating events that can befall a family. Along with the emotional pain and grief, there may be many unanswered questions as to what led to the tragic car crash. One Kentucky family may have a few of their questions answered now that an indictment has been issued against the driver purportedly responsible for their loss.

The recent indictment comes almost a year after the car crash that caused the death of a 22-year-old college graduate. A 19-year-old man has been taken into custody after the indictment was issued. He is facing several charges, including manslaughter in the second-degree and wanton endangerment.

The victim died several days after the accident that also resulted in minor injuries to two passengers in the charged driver’s vehicle. At the time of the crash, the driver was not on scene, and bystanders reported that he went to seek assistance. Once he returned, police reportedly detected the presence of alcohol. Before they could administer field testing for sobriety, the driver supposedly stated that he was intoxicated.

At the time of the crash, the man was placed under arrest and was charged with several offenses, including driving under the influence. Along with the recent indictment for this fatal car crash, he was supposedly also indicted for crimes related to an even earlier event. It is unclear why the man had not been previously formerly charged. While this driver is being held criminally responsible for his role in causing the death of the victim, Kentucky families in similar circumstances may also choose to seek justice for their monetary damages through the filing of a civil lawsuit against the parties deemed liable for their financial losses.
