Man faces homicide and other charges after fatal car crash

With the growth of on-line sales continuing to escalate, the need to deliver these products means there are more trucks on the road. Though the majority of these drivers strive to complete their deliveries in a safe manner, the chances of a serious car crash involving these tractor-trailers increases due to higher demand and strict time constraints. Sadly, one woman recently died along a Kentucky highway in a fatal crash involving a man hauling an Amazon Prime trailer.

According to police, a woman driving a passenger vehicle was forced to stop with other traffic while traveling through a construction zone. A 34-year-old man traveling north in his semi-truck apparently did not reduce his speed in time to avoid colliding with the stopped traffic ahead of him. His truck then slammed into the woman's vehicle.

The impact caused her car to overturn and roll into a pickup truck. This second collision caused both vehicles to catch fire. The 42-year-old woman died at the scene. Neither occupants of the pickup suffered any injuries that required medical care. It is unknown whether the trucker suffered any injuries in the initial crash.

Kentucky officials have charged the truck driver with reckless homicide, reckless driving, neglecting to render assistance and failing to maintain non-owner insurance. The investigation has not yet been completed, and it is uncertain whether the man will face any additional charges. The family of the victim have not only lost their loved one but may also be struggling to manage the financial burdens that this type of car crash often causes. Those who are injured -- or lose beloved family members -- due to the negligence of another party may have a basis for pursuing recovery of their monetary damages through the state's civil courts.
